Sustainability
South End Formaggio is an active participant in the Save That Stuff composting program, composting all of our biodegradable waste. Through this program, recycling, and reusing packing materials for our own shipping purposes, we have successfully reduced our garbage output by 2/3 in the past two years. As a company we are constantly striving to make small environmentally friendly changes from using biodegradable coffee stirrers to driving a hybrid company car.
We are also working to increase the number of organic and sustainably produced products we carry, and now offer a wide variety of organically produced olive oils, vinegars, jams and sweets, and local cheeses, as always from small family farms and businesses. We are especially proud of our large selection of sustainable, organic, biodynamically produced wines. These products can be identified in our store by the green border around the edge of their signs.
The majority of the meats in our deli and in all of our prepared foods are humanely raised including: Hardwick local grass-fed beef, Niman Ranch & Du Breton pork, Massachusetts pasture-raised Azuluna veal, Jamison Farm Lamb, Wellshire naturally-raised roast beef, Plainville antibiotic-free deli turkey and Bell & Evans poultry.
